The principle
Designers are shaped by where they live: the signage, the architecture, the light, the language, the noise. Making work about your place connects your practice to something specific and real, and specificity is what makes a voice recognisable.
Objective. Root your work in the specifics of a real place.
The brief
Design a poster celebrating your city, town or neighbourhood, using details only a local would know.
Constraints
- Include at least three details only locals would recognise
- Avoid tourist landmarks
- Use your own photographs, drawings or recordings as sources
You're done when
- Specific, local details
- An authentic sense of place
- Avoids tourist clichés
Stretch goal
Interview a neighbour and include something they told you.
