The principle

A type specimen shows off a typeface: its characters, weights, details and personality. Specimens are a tradition as old as type itself. Designing one forces you to study a typeface deeply — its quirks, its best letters, and the sizes at which it shines.

Objective. Study a typeface closely and present its personality.

The brief

Design a specimen poster for a typeface you admire, including its name, designer and character set.

Constraints

  • Only the featured typeface (plus one neutral face for small captions, if needed)
  • Show at least three sizes
  • Include its designer and release year
  • Highlight its most distinctive characters

You're done when

  • Accurate information about the typeface
  • Clear display of its distinctive features
  • A layout that suits its personality

Stretch goal

Write a 50-word description of the typeface’s voice and set it on the poster.
