The principle
Design tools shape the work they produce. Working in a spreadsheet, a word processor, a slide editor or a game engine forces you to find new ways to make familiar things — and often reveals forms your usual tools would never suggest.
Objective. Discover new forms by working with an unconventional tool.
The brief
Design a poster for an office party using a tool not designed for graphic design.
Spreadsheets, word processors, presentation software, a code editor, a text message — anything except your usual design software.
Constraints
- No design software at all
- Embrace the tool’s limitations
- Take a screenshot or export from the tool itself
You're done when
- Made entirely in an unconventional tool
- Limitations used creatively
- A complete, readable poster
Stretch goal
Use a tool that has no visual interface at all, such as a terminal.
