The principle
Russian Constructivism (around 1915–1930) saw art as a tool for social change. Designers like El Lissitzky and Varvara Stepanova used bold diagonals, photomontage, red and black, and strong typography to communicate urgently with the public. Design was not decoration — it was action.
Objective. Apply Constructivist principles to a contemporary cause.
The brief
Design a poster encouraging people to join a community garden, using Constructivist principles.
Constraints
- Do not reproduce or trace an existing poster — use the principles, not the artefacts
- Strong diagonals
- Red, black and paper colour
- Bold sans serif type
- Photomontage optional
You're done when
- Clearly Constructivist principles
- Dynamic energy
- A clear, contemporary message
Stretch goal
Use only cut paper and scanned photography, as the Constructivists would have.
