The principle
Scale contrast is the difference in size between elements. Small differences look like mistakes; large differences look like decisions. When one element is dramatically bigger than another, the composition gains energy and depth, and the small elements become more precious by comparison.
Objective. Create drama and depth through extreme differences in scale.
The brief
Design a poster for a music night where the largest element is at least ten times the size of the smallest.
Name the night, the performer and the venue.
Constraints
- Largest element at least 10× the size of the smallest
- No more than five elements in total
- Black, white and one accent colour
You're done when
- An unmistakable difference in scale
- Small elements remain legible
- The composition feels energetic, not chaotic
Stretch goal
Crop the largest element off the edge of the canvas so the viewer completes it in their mind.
